we found a wedding dress for my daughter, he says.
how much is it? we ask.
over a thousand, he says.
this means 1200, we know.
you better start saving up for your dress, he assures me.
i'd never want a dress that expensive, i insist.
how much do you expect to pay for a dress, he asks incredulously.
i'd like to pay about 400, i admit, as if i'm one that's thought these things through.
that's the lowest of the low, he says, obviously shocked.

why do i have to answer questions like this at work? i wonder.
why does he care what a girl who is obviously not getting married anytime soon thinks about wedding dresses? why can't i just pretend that i think it's completely reasonable to spend $1200 on one (non-africa-bound-plane-ticket-related) thing and not have to answer wedding plans quizzes?

and for the record, no, i don't know what color i want bridesmaids dresses to be. and when i was little i, in fact, did not dream of that big cinderella wedding. i don't have flowers or bridesmaids or cakes or kids names picked out. bridges to cross when i get there. why don't people just let you be content where you are? or with the choices you have already made?

Forget that guy.

My wedding cost $98 including the clothes we wore and it was perfect.
